Angela Merici gives us a path of sanctity embodied in her daily life, which was marked by suffering, simplicity, and humble industriousness and was inspired by the example of the saints. Her pursuit of God’s will in her personal life was continuous, sometimes “restless”. Her whole person was involved in this pursuit – eyes, ears, voice, and heart – in order to understand God’s will in faith, to listen and discern the call carefully, and to pray for light. She opened her wise heart to grasp the daily events that are the signs and the traces of God, who works wonders.
Little by little, Angela became a teacher about life, a wise and courageous counsellor, a woman of peace and prayer; she trusted completely in God, her “only treasure”; she read events with a spiritual eye, vanquishing every fear with the universal embrace of love. Following Christ is not an easy path, but it brings happiness. To show the joy of belonging to God is to present this message-invitation so that others may put everything into following in Jesus’ footsteps, which lead to glory and resurrection.
