Today
The Company of St. Ursula, Group of the USA, is part of the Company of St. Ursula of Canada, with a mandate to develop in the United States. Its handful of members are scattered across the country: Maine, New York, Ohio, Illinois. Through the Company of Canada, they are part of the worldwide Federation, Secular Institute of St. Angela Merici.
Like St. Angela and the original Company, members seek to be a Gospel presence and witness in their secular environments of home, work, parish, and civic community. A life of prayer fosters their relationship with Jesus Christ and helps them to manifest God's love.
History
An effort led by Juline Lamb and Sr. Mary Walden, OSU, to begin the Company in Texas in the 1970s did not survive Juline's death in 1996. Women who lived in the United States and desired to join the Company entered the Company of Canada.
On November 25, 2000, in Cincinnati, Ohio, Kathleen Hallinan and Mary-Cabrini Durkin committed themselves to Christ, inaugurating an unaffiliated Company of St. Ursula. In 2006, they affiliated with the Company of St. Ursula of Canada and thus with the Federation. Kathleen died in 2008.
