Today
The purpose of Ursuline Education Network is to foster collaboration among Ursuline-sponsored and affiliated schools and colleges in the United States and Canada, to preserve and develop the Ursuline charism, and to foster educational excellence, innovation, and global connectedness. UEN operates through an executive director and a board of trustees.
To accomplish its mission UEN sponsors conferences for administrators, teachers, staff and students; maintains a website that offers an array of written and visual resources for schools to use in classrooms or on retreats; and publishes an online newsletter, Laurel Links, sharing news from the schools and colleges to share with its members. A list of Ursuline schools and colleges can be found on the UEN website.
UEN hosted its first Global Education Conference at The College of New Rochelle the week of June 16, 2014. The purpose of the conference was to provide an opportunity to strengthen collaborative relationships among Ursuline schools and educators around the world; to celebrate our common heritage and values as followers of St. Angela; and to share collective wisdom and experiences in formulating responses to the challenges of the twenty-first century, especially in the area of global education. One hundred fifty Ursuline educators from 70 countries attended the conference.
UEN recently created a self-study process for schools to use in evaluating their Ursuline identity. This instrument will be offered to the schools in the 2016-17 school year. UEN has also initiated a Global Scholars Program which will welcome its second cohort also in 2016-17.
History
Ursuline Education Network was begun in 1987 by the North American Ursuline Leadership Conference with the express purpose of carrying the Ursulines' educational tradition into the future. The formal incorporation of NAUES (North American Ursuline Educational Services as it was originally known) took place in 1991. A Board of Trustees, representing the Ursuline Congregations, began its governance and reflected the collaborative nature of this undertaking. The name of the Ursuline educational network was changed to Ursuline Educational Services in 2006 and in 2015 was changed to Ursuline Education Network (UEN).
